Highlights: Tarawasi Archaeological Site | Panoramic Valley Views | Secluded Campsite
Our adventure begins with a scenic drive from Cusco to the significant Inca site of Tarawasi, where we explore the remnants of an ancient ceremonial center. Continuing to Mollepata, we begin our trek on a less-traveled path, offering solitude and stunning vistas of the surrounding valleys. As we reach our campsite at Soraypampa (3,900m / 11,482ft), we settle in with unparalleled views of the majestic Rayuska peak (5,350m / 17,552ft).
Highlights: Towering Andean Peaks | First Glimpse of Salkantay Mountain
Today, we merge with the main Salkantay trail at Soraypampa, enjoying a gentle yet scenic trek surrounded by some of the most iconic mountains in the region. As we ascend, breathtaking views of Humantay (5,917m), Tucurway (5,910m), and the mighty Salkantay (6,217m) unfold before us. Our campsite at Salkantaypampa (4,100m / 13,451ft) offers a serene setting beneath the towering peaks.
Highlights: Highest Point of the Trek | Stunning Glacier Views | Unique Flora & Fauna
Today marks one of the most challenging yet rewarding segments of our journey. We ascend to the Incachiriaska Pass (5,028m / 16,495ft), the trek’s highest point, where we are surrounded by glaciers, alpine lakes, and perhaps glimpses of Andean wildlife, including condors and vicuñas. A descent leads us to the secluded Andean village of Pampacawana (4,000m / 13,123ft), where we camp beneath a star-filled sky.
Highlights: First Inca Trail Segment | Archaeological Discoveries | Rich Biodiversity
Descending through lush valleys, we arrive at Paucarcancha, an ancient Inca site showcasing remarkable terraces and stone structures. Here, we officially join the Inca Trail, transitioning to porter support to preserve the integrity of the historic route. The trail ascends through diverse ecological zones, from cloud forests to high-altitude grasslands, leading to our campsite at Llulluchapampa (3,800m / 12,460ft), offering spectacular mountain vistas.
Highlights: Two Mountain Passes | Spectacular Andean Views | Historic Inca Sites
A demanding yet exhilarating day awaits as we conquer Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215m / 13,828ft), the highest point on the Inca Trail. Following a descent into the Pacaymayu Valley, we ascend to the second pass, Runkuracay (3,950m / 12,959ft), before exploring the well-preserved Inca sites of Runkuracay and Sayacmarca. We conclude the day at our tranquil Chaquicocha (3,600m / 11,800ft) campsite, where the sunset paints the sky with vibrant hues.
Highlights: Scenic Cloud Forest | Hidden Inca Ruins | Panoramic Vistas
The trail levels out, allowing for a more relaxed hike through some of the most stunning landscapes of the trek. We pass through Phuyupatamarca (“The City Above the Clouds”) before arriving at Wiñay Wayna (“Forever Young”), a breathtakingly well-preserved Inca site featuring cascading terraces. We enjoy an in-depth guided exploration before settling into our final campsite (2,680m / 8,792ft).
