Departure & Return Location

Where does the Inca Trail start?

The Inca Trail adventure begins early in the morning—either from Cusco or the Sacred Valley, depending on where you’re staying.

  • 🏙️ If you’re staying in Cusco:
    Our team from Allpackers Expeditions will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 4:30 AM. We’ll make sure you’re fully prepared and ready for the journey ahead, then drive you to the train station in Ollantaytambo.

  • 🏞️ If you’re staying in the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo, Urubamba, or nearby):
    Allpackers Expeditions will pick you up about an hour later, depending on your hotel’s location. It’s a more relaxed start, and you’ll be closer to the trailhead.

No matter where you’re staying, our team handles all the logistics—so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Just get your backpack ready and leave the rest to us.

Day 1Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 82 – Llactapata

  • Pick-up Time: 5:30 AM

    Your adventure begins bright and early! At 5:30 AM, our Allpackers Expeditions team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco.

    🚌 Scenic Drive Through the Sacred Valley
    We’ll travel for about 3.4 hours through the beautiful Sacred Valley, passing small Andean towns, ancient terraces, and breathtaking landscapes.

    🥐 Breakfast Stop (7:00 AM – Not Included)
    We’ll make a 30-minute stop in Ollantaytambo to enjoy breakfast and prepare for the start of our hike.

    📍 Starting Point: Kilometer 82 (2,700m / 8,858ft)
    Here we’ll meet our porters, check in at the control point, and begin the world-famous Inca Trail.

    🌿 Hike to Llactapata (2,750m / 9,022ft)
    Our first day is a perfect warm-up. We’ll walk along the Cusichaca River and pass small farming communities. The highlight is the archaeological site of Llactapata, where we’ll camp near the ancient terraces and enjoy a serene atmosphere away from the crowds.

🌿 Arrival at Llulluchapampa (3,850m / 12,631ft)
We’ll reach our campsite in the high Andes, offering incredible panoramic views and a peaceful place to rest before conquering the highest pass tomorrow.

    • Runkurakay: A circular Inca site likely used as a lookout post.

    • Sayacmarca: Known as the “Inaccessible Town,” perched dramatically on a cliff.
